Welcome to the “About AERE” page for the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AERE), the international professional association for economists working on the environment and natural resources.
AERE was founded in 1979 as a means for exchanging ideas, stimulating research, and promoting graduate training in environmental and resource economics. AERE currently has over 900 members from more than thirty nations, coming from academic institutions, the public sector, and private industry.
AERE provides many forums for exchanging ideas relevant to the management of natural and environmental resources.
As of 2014, the AERE will discontinue affiliation with the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management (JEEM), and instead start its own journal called the Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (JAERE). The AERE also publishes the Review of Environmental Economics and Policy (REEP) and the bi-annual AERE Newsletter for members.
AERE also offers members a variety of opportunities to present their research at meetings and workshops. AERE hosts the AERE Summer Conference, which takes place each June in venues across the U.S., and co-sponsors the World Congress of Environmental and Resource Economists, which is held every four years. In addition, AERE sponsors sessions at the annual meetings of several organizations including the Allied Social Science Associations (ASSA), the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association, the Southern Economic Association and the Western Economic Association International.
AERE maintains affiliations with the American Economic Association (AEA), the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA), and the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE).
