The Ocean Conservancy is Hiring for a Fish Conservation Manager - Gulf of Mexico

The Nation's largest non-profit marine conservation organization, The Ocean Conservancy is committed to protecting ocean environments and conserving the global abundance and diversity of marine life through science-based advocacy, research and public education. We have the following opportunity available in our Austin, TX office:

Fish Conservation Manager - Gulf of Mexico

The Ocean Conservancy's fish conservation program seeks to end over fishing through research, education, regulation, incentives, legislation, and litigation. As part of this effort, TOC is developing incentive-based solutions that reward fishers for achievement of conservation goals. Taking advantage of both regulatory and market-based approaches, incentives might include increased access to healthy stocks or greater regulatory flexibility in return for measurable progress on conservation goals. At this time, TOC's fish conservation program is giving particular emphasis to the Gulf of Mexico region.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

The Fish Conservation Manager will coordinate The Ocean Conservancy's efforts to promote economic solutions that advance conservation goals in Gulf of Mexico fisheries. Working closely with a team of scientists, lawyers, community organizers, and policy analysts, as well as with the regional fishing community, the Fish Conservation Manager will research, analyze, and advocate for appropriate economic incentives for conservation. The management strategies that are promoted should create accountability and reward innovation.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant will hold an advanced degree in marine policy, resource economics, marine biology, or a related field with expertise in the area of natural resource management and conservation. Familiarity with the U.S. fishery management system is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to integrate across disciplines and work with a wide variety of stakeholders. The Program Manager will initially be based in TOC's office in Austin, TX, with the possibility of future geographic flexibility.
