Title: Environmental Economist

Description
The Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC) seeks to hire an environmental economist to lead new projects and contribute to ongoing initiatives related to the economic dimensions of sustainability science and environmental policy.

Education
Advanced degree in economics or related field. Ph.D. preferred.

Experience
Preference given for greater than five years experience in environmental economics or environmental policy research or project management.

Skills
Strong background in the field of environmental economics or environmental policy with demonstrated expertise in economic research on, or modeling and analysis of the interactions between economic and environmental systems. Experience in feasibility analysis, cost benefit analysis and project economics helpful. Research interests could include economic analyses of urban amenities, water resources, energy, air quality, transportation and economic modeling of ecosystem services. Preference given for demonstrated success in conceptualizing environmental economics problems, designing and implementing appropriate research methods, applying relevant quantitative and qualitative techniques, and effectively communicating in English both orally and in writing with sponsors, colleagues, and non-technical audiences.

We subscribe to several research databases and offer generous support for research activity that includes competitive summer grants, graduate assistants, and a reduced teaching load. Salary range is competitive. The Business Schools (both Graduate and Undergraduate) offers B.S. and MBA programs of study (including specialized MBA degrees) and maintains strong ties with the business community. The Beard Center for Leadership and Ethics offers additional opportunities to pursue research in the intersection of corporate social responsibility, strategy and ethics. In addition, Pittsburgh provides numerous cultural and recreational amenities that enhance the quality of life for area residents.

Duties will include, but not be limited to
Research and research management that will involve collaborative work with university and HARC colleagues, public institutions, and environmental stakeholder groups. Candidate should be committed to developing an environmental economics research agenda, obtaining funding for that agenda, and contributing to the field of environmental economics and sustainability science through publications and presentations to technical and non-technical audiences. Candidate will provide support to colleagues on various projects.
