Dear Friends,
We are very pleased to invite you to Gothenburg, Sweden, to participate in the 16th annual conference of the EAERE. The conference will be held at the School of Business, Economics and Law, Göteborg University, situated right in the centre of Gothenburg. The city of Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden, still it is small and cosy. The centre is concentrated so most hotels will be close to the conference. The surrounding countryside is a midsummer night dream - forests, lakes and a big archipelago with thousands of islands. In June the sun only dips into the sea for a few hours and it never gets dark, so it is a good idea to stay an extra day or two to explore. We look forward to welcoming you to Gothenburg, and we are determined to make sure the conference will be equally memorable for its academic interest and its social events.

CALL FOR PAPERS
You are invited to submit theoretical and applied papers in all areas of environmental and natural resource economics for presentation at the EAERE's annual conference to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden during June 25-28, 2008. All papers will undergo the regular peer review process regardless of the session in which they will be presented. Papers can only be submitted electronically through this webpage. Deadline for submission of papers is February 1, 2008. Notification of acceptance will be sent by April 15, 2008.
Focus: The conference is a general conference and all topics are welcome. We will however have a special focus on environmental issues in developing countries as well as on climate. This will be reflected in some of the plenaries and sessions.
Quality: We are very keen to ensure the academic quality of all sessions, to deepen and broaden our views. One of the ways in which we are striving to do this is through inviting not only members but specially targeting also other communities of researchers. This includes both good general economists, particularly public economists and behavioural economists as well as others who are close to our field, such as climate, fishery, agricultural and ecological economists. We are also making a special attempt to reach economists in the USA in Eastern Europe as well as in developing countries. For the latter two categories we have secured some stipends that will be announced on the website.
Form: We will, in addition to plenaries and regular sessions, invite interested participants to present papers as posters. We have excellent facilities so that the posters will be conveniently displayed around the coffee and lunch area. A prize for best poster will be awarded.
Social Activities: The academic content is obviously the most important but if you merely wanted to be maximize efficiency you could stay at home and read papers. We believe that a conference should also be a social occasion which makes it easy for people from different countries, generations and sub-disciplines to meet and have fun. We will have some social activity every evening, and we innovate with an excursion, dinner and dance on the last evening: A midsummer nights dream. Our current planning has this evening as a boat trip through the archipelago with wine and tapas on the boat and dancing on an island. The advantages (apart from the fun) are that this is an incentive to stay the whole conference - plan to leave on the Sunday. The last sessions will not have to face dwindling numbers and on the very last evening we can party without having to worry about making presentations next morning.
