AERE Invites You to Apply for the JAERE Editorial PositionAERE’s official research journal, the Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (JAERE), will have an open editorial position starting January 1, 2026. JAERE has a team of four editors (currently Mary Evans, Teevrat Garg, Nick Kuminoff, and Arik Levinson), and Nick will be stepping down at the end of this year. Each team member handles all incoming submissions on a rotating basis for two months out of every eight, currently about 30 per month. That means either finding reviewers and making editorial decisions, assigning co-editors to find reviewers and make decisions, or making desk rejections. The four-member editorial team works closely with the co-editors and interacts with the AERE Board and the University of Chicago Press on behalf of JAERE. The expected term length is four years. All nominations and self-nominations will be carefully considered. Desired qualifications include: (1) a strong scholarly record, including an established research agenda in environmental and natural resource economics; and (2) a strong service history with JAERE and/or other high-quality journals, e.g., as a dependable and careful reviewer, serving on editorial councils, and/or serving as an associate editor, co-editor, or editor. We will also consider: (3) the range of journal submissions in terms of topics and methods that a nominee is likely to cover and compare this with expected coverage gaps; and (4) the nominee’s potential to enhance the diversity of the editorial board. The AERE Board invites AERE members interested in joining JAERE’s team of editors to submit a statement of interest to AERE President Sheila Olmstead. The statement should explain how the individual would work to advance the journal’s mission and honor AERE’s commitment to an inclusive environment in which all individuals are treated fairly. To receive full consideration, nominations should be submitted via email to [email protected] by September 15, 2025, although nominations will be accepted until the position is filled. A new editor will be selected by October 31, 2025. |
