General Information

The AERE 2023 Summer Conference will be held at the Holiday Inn By the Bay in Portland, Maine. NEW THIS YEAR! Conference sessions begin on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. ET with a block of parallel paper presentations followed by an exciting plenary panel on Forever Chemicals: A Pressing Justice and Policy Issue. The conference ends on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Health and Safety Protocols

In order to be admitted into the AERE Summer Conference, you MUST present a vaccination record showing receipt of all recommended doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine, including recommended boosters, or proof of a negative COVID test (taken within the 72 hours preceding your arrival and check-in at the conference). In addition, masks are encouraged during indoor conference activities except as appropriate in designated areas (e.g., while eating or drinking).

Hotel

The Holiday Inn By the Bay is set along the picturesque shores of Casco Bay. AERE has secured a discounted rate of $199/night + tax (single/double) over the dates of the conference. This discounted rate is available until April 30, 2023or until the block sells out. The block is expected to sell out, so we encourage you to make your reservation as soon as possible!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What should I wear?
A: During the day, anything from business to casual dress is appropriate. The temperature fluctuates in meeting rooms, so please bring a jacket.


Q: Is parking available?
A: Overnight guests may park under the hotel at a rate of $15 per vehicle, per night. Day guests may park in the external garage at a rate of $5 per vehicle, per day. Day guests who park under the hotel will be subject to full day parking prices.


Q: Will there be WiFi?
A: Complimentary basic wireless internet will be provided.


Q: I am presenting a paper. Can you please tell me the format for the parallel sessions?
A: Most parallel sessions will consist of 4 papers. Each presenter will have approximately 17 minutes for the presentation followed by 4-5 minutes for questions. The order of presentations will follow the order listed on the program. Unless otherwise noted, the session chair will be the last presenter in each session, and the chair will be responsible for keeping the session on schedule and providing a laptop for the session. Presenters are not required to provide or upload full papers prior to the conference but are required to upload presentations at least 24-hours prior to their session.
